Priests, Deacons, & Seminarians Retreat

Franciscan University of Steubenville | June 18 - 22, 2012

The Word of God is not an idea. The Word of God is not a theory, a theology, or a thorny problem to be explained to a wayward world. The Word of God is a Person—a Creator, a Ruler, a Lover, a Brother, a Friend. And being a minister of the Word depends on a relationship with that Person. Only from that relationship, can fruit come forth.

Father Dave Pivonka

Dr. John Bergsma

Accordingly, from June 18-22, 2012, in Steubenville, Ohio, the Person of Christ will take center stage when the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology partners with Franciscan University to host the 2012 Priests, Deacons, and Seminarians Retreat.

Led by Center President Dr. Scott Hahn and Franciscan Friar Father Dave Pivonka.  Participants will have the opportunity to grow in knowledge and love of Christ in his Word, through the study of the Scriptures, private prayer, and the Sacraments. Through all that, they will be led to a deeper understanding of who he is, and how they, as his ministers, bear his image. They’ll also be led to a deeper understanding of how they’re called to be that image in their parishes, schools, dioceses, and communities.

Joining Dr. Hahn and Father Pivonka will be St. Paul Center Fellows Dr. John Bergsma, Father Pablo Gadenz, and Kimberly Hahn, as well as the Center’s friends Father Michael Scanlan, TOR, Deacon Ralph Poyo, Father Tim Hepburn, and Father Tom Valenti.

Talk titles for the retreat include: “Lord, Have Mercy: The Healing Power of Confession”; “Jesus as Divine Wisdom”; “Bearing Witness to the Word”; “God Gives Us His Word”; “Becoming Contagious Catholics”; “The House is Coming”; “The Three Witnesses: The Spirit, The Water, and the Blood”; “Book of Signs, Book of Glory”; and more.

In addition to the talks, the 2012 Priests, Deacons, and Seminarians Retreat will also offer daily Mass, confession, eucharistic adoration, praise and worship, plus hours for quiet and fellowship, giving priests, deacons, and seminarians the restoration they need to build their relationship with Christ and proclaim the Word in the coming year with renewed fire and strength.
