Fr. Robert Barron was born in Chicago in 1959.  He received his Masters degree in Philosophy from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. in 1982 and was ordained to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Chicago in 1986.  He served as associate pastor at St. Paul of the Cross parish in Park Ridge, Illinois from 1986-1989.  From 1989-1992, he pursued doctoral studies in theology at the Institut Catholique de Paris, receiving his degree with a mention of très honorable in June of 1992.  His thesis, A Study of the De Potentia of Thomas Aquinas in Light of the Dogmatik of Paul Tillich, was published by the Edwin Mellen Press in 1993. 

In 1996, his book, Thomas Aquinas: Spiritual Master, was published by Crossroad.  This text was later given the Catholic Press Association First Prize in Spirituality.  In September of 1998, his book And Now I See:  A Theology of Transformation was published, also by Crossroad, and in October of 2000 his book Heaven in Stone and Glass appeared.  In April of 2002, his book The Strangest Way:  Walking the Christian Path was published by Orbis Books.  In October of 2004, his book Bridging the Great Divide:  Musings of a Post-Liberal, Post-Conservative, Evangelical Catholic was published by Sheed and Ward.   In July of 2005, he published a DVD entitled Untold Blessings:  The Three Paths of Holiness.   Fr. Barron is professor of  systematic theology at the University of St. Mary of the Lake-Mundelein Seminary outside of Chicago.  His numerous articles on theology and spirituality have appeared in a variety of journals.  He also gives frequent retreats, missions and workshops on various aspects of the spiritual life.
