Father William Kurz, S.J.

Father William Kurz, S.J., Senior Fellow of the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology, specializes in the study of the New Testament, particularly in Luke-Acts, Johannine writings, narrative, rhetorical, and canonical criticism, biblical intertextuality, and now also contemporary application of the canonical text and spiritual exegesis.

Father Kurz, who earned his Ph.D. from Yale University, is the author of many articles published in professional journals and books, and five books: His latest book is What Does the Bible Say About the End Times? A Catholic View (Ann Arbor: Servant, 2004). His other books include: The Acts of the Apostles (Liturgical Press, 1983, rev. ed. 1989, Italian, Hungarian, and Spanish translations 1993, 1994); Following Jesus: A Disciple’s Guide to Luke and Acts (Charis Books, 1984); Farewell Addresses in the New Testament (Liturgical Press, 1990; rev. ed., Servant Books, 2003); Reading Luke-Acts: Dynamics of Biblical Narrative (1993); The Future of Catholic Biblical Scholarship: A Constructive Conversation, co-authored with Luke Timothy Johnson (Eerdmans, 2002)

The author of many articles in scholarly journals and books, Father Kurz’ recent publications apply methods of biblical actualization to contemporary credal and moral issues or investigate spiritual senses of Scripture. They include: “The Johannine Word as Revealing the Father: A Christian Credal Actualization,” published in Perspectives in Religious Studies; and “Catholic Appropriation of Biblical Perspectives regarding Abortion,” published in in Life and Learning XII: Proceedings of the Twelfth University Faculty for Life Conference at Ave Maria Law School 2002.
